Akarua Rua Pinot Noir Central Otago 2013 – $$
LG and I returned from Bali today. 9 hours flying time. We left fine weather and 30C temperatures to return to Wellington and rain and what feels like 5C! We have truly left the sun behind. And while we were away Daylight Saving Time finished and the clocks went back. Winter Is coming.
L and the boys are staying on in Indonesia for a few more days to see Komodo Dragons, LG has gone back to her Mum for the second half of the school holidays, and yours truly is left on his todd and is feeling a bit glum…
So, I built a fire and bought a good Pinot and some comfort-food fish and chips for dinner, put on some loud music and watched a couple of stages of Paris-Nice – the Race to The Sun – which I recorded off Sky Sports. The photo above shows the point where Tom Boonen decked it on Stage 2 and was forced out of Paris-Roubaix by injury. Tough luck.
The wine: pinot ruby. 14% alcohol. Busty.
A proper engaging and brambly nose. Ripe red cherries. Old fashioned roses. Good oaking. Central Otago wild woody herbs.
Drinking well. Nice dense core of fruit. Mouthfilling. Generous. Some vanilla. A good wine for a damp and chill New Zealand autumn day.
