Peter Yealands Marlborough PET Sauvignon Blanc 2012 – $$
Peter Yealands is quite an identity on the NZ wine scene. A big exporter and innovator. He is committed to sustainable winemaking. He runs rare Babydoll Sussex miniature sheep in his vineyard to keep the grass down under his vines, so he needn’t burn diesel in his tractors mowing between the rows. Being small, the wee sheep can’t reach the grapes overhead…
This wine is Carbon Zero, and comes in a lightweight ‘outdoor ready’ PET plastic bottle, laden with medals galore. A good idea that.
Colour is pale white gold. Zesty and grassy and crisp; crunchy Marlborough tomato-stalk varietal flavours, bursting with gooseberries and limes. The website says guava, but as I don’t think I can recall guava taste, I cannot confirm or deny that. Long mineral finish tho. A very nice wine 4
